MAZO VCMA vs Vishay IHLP and Coilcraft XAL: a datasheet comparison
Short answer: at 1.0 µH, the MAZO VCMA series has lower typical DC resistance than the Vishay IHLP part in the same size class in all four pairs compared here, and a higher heating-current rating in three of the four. The Vishay IHLP and Coilcraft XAL5030 parts publish higher saturation current. VCMA-0420 and VCMA-0630 have land patterns within 0.6 mm of IHLP-1616BZ-01 and IHLP-2525CZ-01, but none of the pairs is identical.
All values are copied from the manufacturers' datasheets, listed under Sources. The three manufacturers define their current ratings differently, so the page shows each definition first and compares saturation current only on a like-for-like basis. This is a datasheet comparison, not an interchange guarantee: MST is a distributor, and the brand names belong to their owners.

Vishay lists typical and maximum DCR; the heating and saturation currents are typical values. All VCMA rated voltages are in the next section.
Reading the saturation numbers correctly
MAZO and Coilcraft quote saturation current at a 30% inductance drop; Vishay quotes it at a 20% drop. A given part reaches a 20% drop at a lower current than a 30% drop, so a part's 20% current can never exceed its 30% current. That makes the comparison against Vishay one-sided but safe to read: each IHLP 20% figure (8.50, 12.0, 22 and 36.0 A) is already higher than the matching VCMA 30% figure (7.5, 11.0, 15.5 and 29.0 A), so the IHLP saturates later at any equal inductance drop. The XAL5030-102ME is on the same 30% basis as the VCMA-0530-1R0, and 14.0 A against 11.0 A is a direct comparison.
The heating currents use the same 40 °C temperature-rise basis in all three datasheets, so they compare directly: VCMA leads IHLP in the 0420, 0630 and 1040 classes (6.5 against 3.75 A, 13.5 against 11 A, 19.0 against 17.5 A), the IHLP-2020CZ-01 leads the VCMA-0530 (9.2 against 8.5 A), and the XAL5030 leads it at 11.1 A. DCR is lower on the VCMA in each of the four Vishay pairs, and the XAL5030-102ME has the lowest DCR of the 0530-class parts.

Land patterns: close in two pairs, different in the rest
Pad size and spacing decide whether a part fits an existing footprint. Dimensions are the pad across the current path, the pad length along it, the gap between pads and the overall span, as drawn in each datasheet.
| MAZO part | MAZO pad: across × along, gap, span | Comparison part | Comparison pad: across × along, gap, span | Span difference |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| VCMA-0420 | 2.5 × 1.5, gap 2.2, span 5.2 | IHLP-1616BZ-01 | 2.286 × 1.855, gap 1.93, span 5.639 | 0.44 (close, not identical) |
| VCMA-0630 | 3.5 × 2.35, gap 3.7, span 8.4 | IHLP-2525CZ-01 | 3.429 × 2.413, gap 3.429, span 8.255 | 0.145 (close, not identical) |

What the data supports
- Lowest DCR and highest heating current per size class: VCMA against IHLP in the 0420, 0630 and 1040 classes.
- Highest saturation current: IHLP against VCMA in all four pairs, and XAL5030 against VCMA-0530.
- Highest allowed part temperature: Coilcraft XAL at +165 °C against 125 °C for the VCMA and IHLP-01 datasheets.
- Footprint: VCMA-0420 and VCMA-0630 are the two that sit close to an IHLP pattern; the other pairs need a new pad layout.
- Voltage rating is stated in the MAZO datasheets (40, 50 and 75 V); the application bus voltage should be checked against it.
Where to go next
The 0.22, 1.0, 1.2, 1.5 and 2.2 µH comparison of VCMA-0420 against Coilcraft XAL4020 is in the XAL4020 guide, and the VCMA and MAWH series pages list the MAZO datasheets. To get a quote for a VCMA part, send the series, the inductance and the quantity through the quote form; MST is a distributor and the quote states the supply channel.
Frequently asked questions
Is the MAZO VCMA a drop-in replacement for the Vishay IHLP?
The datasheets do not make it a drop-in. VCMA-0420 against IHLP-1616BZ-01 and VCMA-0630 against IHLP-2525CZ-01 have land patterns within 0.6 mm in span but different pad dimensions, and the other pairs differ by 0.76 mm or more in span. The saturation current is also quoted at a 20% drop for Vishay and a 30% drop for MAZO.
Which has lower DC resistance at 1.0 µH, VCMA or IHLP?
The VCMA, in all four pairs: for example VCMA-0630-1R0 is 6.7 mΩ typical and 7.4 mΩ maximum against 9 and 10 mΩ for IHLP-2525CZ-01, and VCMA-1040-1R0 is 2.6 and 3.1 mΩ against 3.70 and 4.10 mΩ for IHLP-4040DZ-01.
Why can I not compare Isat values directly?
Vishay rates saturation current at a 20% inductance drop, while MAZO and Coilcraft use 30%. A 20% figure is always at or below the same part’s 30% figure, so the IHLP figures are higher than the VCMA 30% figures even before that difference is considered.
How does VCMA-0530 compare with the Coilcraft XAL5030?
At 1.0 µH, XAL5030-102ME lists 8.50 mΩ typical DCR, 11.1 A at a 40 °C rise and 14.0 A saturation at a 30% drop; VCMA-0530-1R0 lists 11.5 mΩ, 8.5 A and 11.0 A on the same bases. The land patterns differ: the XAL5030 span is 4.49 mm and the VCMA-0530 span is 6.0 mm.
What is the VCMA series rated for in temperature and voltage?
The VCMA datasheets state −55 to +125 °C operating and storage, a 125 °C total of ambient plus rise, AEC-Q200 and halogen-free construction. Rated voltage is 40 V for the 0420, 50 V for the 0530 and 75 V for the 0630 and 1040.
How do I get a quote for a MAZO VCMA inductor?
Send the series (0420, 0530, 0630 or 1040), the inductance and the quantity through the quote form. MST is a distributor and technical sourcing partner, and the quote states the supply channel.
